Keshia

why she cares so much

Keshia became interested in this line of work when she witnessed her beloved Grandpa Frenchie take his last breath in 2011. It was a life changing experience when she saw a radiant version of him looking like he did when she was a child, standing beside his frail and failing body in the hospital bed. This vision of him was smiling, winking and waving before quickly fading away. His final words to her that afternoon, after she shared her dream to one day write a novel, were: ‘If you’re going to write a damn good book, you had better live a damn good adventure.’ She took his advice seriously and bought a one way ticket to Australia the morning after he had died. This led her toward the exploration of over 25 countries over 8 years, delving deeply into different cultural ideas, perceptions and rituals around death and ascension into the afterlife. She is still working on the book and hopes to publish it one day under the same name as this business she is building, souls between stars.

Along the way Keshia also used the abundant archetypes present in a deck of tarot cards to help tell some of her stories in short form or through poetry and to help others to explore their own perceptions of their experiences. You can request to join her private Facebook group where she has been sharing these creatively written musings for well over a decade.

Keshia is passionate about both living life and embracing death fully. She naturally feels the fleeting and fragile alongside the deep and dynamic. For Keshia, this work is about embracing this incredible life and inviting in the awe and wonder that can come when exploring all the possibilities of what may come next. Since she can remember, Keshia has been fascinated with the concept of the human soul and has spent her life exploring all of its possible potentials.

Keshia grew up in a small Northern Alberta community with entrepreneurial parents who created and maintained a successful perennial greenhouse business for 30 years. She spent the last 8 years both assisting her brother in taking over the business from their parents and spending the quiet winter seasons exploring and building credibility in the area of interest that she is now currently pursuing full time, as souls between stars services.

In 2017 Keshia began with her hands-on experience as a volunteer with Alberta Health Services and then in 2021 joined Pilgrims Hospice to gain experience caring for the dying. She still plays an active role in a direct service position and as a co-facilitator of some of the hospice’s wonderful grief group programming.  She obtained her Master’s Degree in Metaphysical Theology in 2023 and is currently in the process of completing a dissertation to earn her doctorate. Her thesis explores and supports the significant spiritual role that a death doula can play alongside a physical medical team within a healthcare system that is currently crumbling. She runs Pathways to Peace, a year-long, monthly gathering in downtown Edmonton. Through reflections, discussion circles, and hands-on workshops, we examine how to bring dignity, meaning, and compassion to the end-of-life journey—for ourselves, our loved ones, and our communities. Whether you’re a caregiver, professional, grieving individual, or simply someone drawn to deeper conversations about life and death, this series offers a welcoming space for learning, healing, and connection.

Keshia was awarded a scholarship to attend an intensive 12 week death doula training course through Life Options Australia which was completed in 2019. She has end of life doula certification with the reputable Douglas College in Coquitlam, B.C and is a proud registered member of the End of Life Doula Association of Canada. Keshia is also a part of the Edmonton chapter of the Threshold Choir called ‘Voices of Compassion,’ who sing spiritual three part harmonies for those in the final stages of life.
